CONNOR CARVER CARTER

“TRAVEL THE WORLD AND THE SEVERAL C’s”

I am a multifaceted director/editor with 6 years of professional freelance experience. Working on large-scale productions in a majority of departments has taught me the process of creating industry-standard adverts/promos and short films. I spent my spare time producing independent content for a vast repertoire of clients and artists. This site showcases these productions.

NALA’S SONG - YVONNE HERCULES

DIRECTOR/ART DIRECTOR/EDITOR/vfx

FRUITS OF ORCHID - FULHAM TOWN HALL

DIRECTOR/EDITOR

the Fulham town HALLWAY was a lavish building without use for over 10 years. The inside WASN'T POLISHED, but it was beautiful. In conjunction with the art show ‘Art in the age of now,’ I was granted access to shoot there before it could be turned into a fancy hotel. the SUSTAINABLE clothes of Gloria Jane Royer are featured. making Beauty from the unwanted was a great starting point for what became this ritual film. The short was picked up by the experimental online publication, coeval.

TRAINING DAY - JAMMY K

DIRECTOR/ART DEPARTMENT/EDITOR

I had a vision, of riding out the hard-hitting sample, with abs! this song is about Jammy breaking free and exploding onto the scene. So I decided to couple this aesthetic with some recreations from Fight Club. This offered some comic relief which complemented Jammy’s personality, hilariously direct.

WHAT IF - BERG

DIRECTOR/EDITOR

Imagine a music video, that works as a two-part film. No need to imagine, sit back, and press play for the cinematic universe of Berg and her story of love and regret. At this time I became fixated on one David Hockney painting, working as my main reference. The image above is a recreation of the painting ‘My Parents’. The video invites you into the frame to explore the story behind the image.

TAKE OFF YOUR DISGUISE - BERG

WRITER/DIRECTOR/EDITOR

The sequel of bergs two-part epic really stepped up a notch. We took the skeleton team of what if, crowd-funded 10k then took to the scottish highlands to film on the corrour estate. TRAINSPOTTING and spectre had already used this location, meaning we had big shoes to fill. I was loaded with a script, and a CAMPER VAN full of film goodies. The highlands did not relent its’ weather either, resulting in last-minute rewrites, snowstorms, and high-speed winds. We had the last laugh, with this ode to the surreal.

NEW SKILLS ACADEMY - TV AD

WRITER/DIRECTOR/ART DEPARTMENT/EDITOR

The goal was to target the 35 - 44 age demographic. I started by consulting my mum nd her friends like an unofficial focus group. After finding some of the hobbies they would love to turn into careers. They say never work with kids or dogs, so I thought why not do both. Thankfully I have enough younger cousins and animal family members that I survived. Through New Skills already established company my ad premiered on Sky TV. It was a proud day for me, the child, and the dogs!

KEN & JESSE’S COOKIES - BAKE T HOME RANGE

WRITER/DIRECTOR/art department/EDITOR

I was hired to help Ken & Jesse’s expand their business as my first lock down job. The wholesalers Leon and Wholefoods were of course shut down, so like many businesses they went online. This resulted in a bake at home campaign. The instructional guide would prove how easy it was to make fresh cookies at home. So me and my DoP build a tabletop set at home, to show just about anything can be done from your kitchen.

TOO MUCH - S4U

GAFFER/ASSISTANT CAMERA/ASSISTANT EDITOR

We had two days of restrictive access in the Flemings Mayfair Hotel. This required a lot of finesse to move through the thin hallways with heavy lighting and camera equipment. The added task of not disturbing guests was a whole other beast. Despite the challenges, the location was a delight to light, offering its beautiful decor to the RnB throwback. The performers and costumes provided by the band’s creative team really elevated the shoot. It was a blast transforming a high-end hotel into a psychedelic wonderland.

MOVE ME - DANCE SHORT

DIRECTOR/Camera Operator/EDITOR/ANIMATOR

I was asked to shoot a dance video for a cover of Britney Spears ‘EVERY TIME’. The song had been produced to raise money for the proceeds of the Felix project. The project saves surplus food for those in need. As a token of my appreciation to the dancer La’Mel, I animated a highlight reel from the video.

IN THE DARK - STARLING

EDITOR

I first worked for Paulo when he needed an editor to take the load of his post production projects. He focused on pre-production for his next two videos, I edited Starlings music video for In the Dark and two other projects simultaneously. In the Dark was a quick turnaround, taking me two days to complete. Then i organised the timeline and rushes for Paulo’s short films, offering drafts to send to his clients.

ZAC - VIDEO PORTRAIT

DIRECTOR/EDITOR

A personal project to showcase Zacs journey into learning pole dancing.

OH BABY - KAMAU & THE WOLF

DIRECTOR/art dIRECTOR/EDITOR/vfx

The first time I heard ‘Oh Baby’ I imagined FLOATING, IN A WORLD THAT SHOWS IT seams . a fantasy video that didn't take itself too seriously. I aimed to create something unreal enough to suspend the belief of the dreamscapes that haunt kamau & wolf. do you see it?

WINGS - LOUIS & ELDON

DIRECTOR/ART DIRECTOR/EDITOR

A reflective take on the climate crisis with reoccurring themes of suffocation and claustrophobia.

EVOLLOVE - ARXIVN

ART DEPARTMENT/EDITOR/VFX/ANIMATOR

Arxivn’s mum was generous enough to donate half of her living room for this shoot. I bought vinyls because Arx loves music. On the day of the shoot, we required a narrative device to transition the scenes. I recommended the TV screen bridging the gap. It became a critical motif in the editing process. The finishing touch was the animation and masking to match the feelings of frustration in the song. This one really put the “Do it in post” principle to test but made me a better editor for it.

P A M - O T T O R E I G N

DIRECTOR/dv camera operator/video mixer operator/EDITOR

WARNING: THIS VIDEO IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE WITH EPILEPSY.

I want to tell you about the time I found my friend’s old video mixer. Once I established it was still (sort of) compatible with modern technology I approached the band Otto Reign. Their glitchy, electronic sound was the perfect harmony for the analog device. The project was about shedding the persona you wear day to day, exposing the true self. Naturally, I secured a large snake and had my two friends play Adam and Eve. A vast majority of the edit came from mixing two DV camera channels over each other, making it a fun and organic process.

GO YOUR OWN WAY - YOURGAMEPLAN

WRITER/PRODUCER/DIRECTOR/ART DEPARTMENT/EDITOR

Yourgameplan was a starter company when they approached me to help with their initial campaign. They requested a LONG FORM video to be shown in schools, as an alternative to the pressures of going to uni. We aimed to explore the confusion of this time in teenagers life, and REASSURE that uni debt is not the only option. Along with the long form video, I was tasked with making social media cut downs. These would act as the next years social content.

KEN & JESSE’S COOKIES - HALLOWEEN 3D RANGE

DIRECTOR/ART DEPARTMENT/EDITOR

While working on the bake at home range cookies for Ken & Jesse’s we decided to plan ahead for the next holiday season. Cue a spooky voice-over, cobwebs, and a flying bat toy. That’s what I call a Halloween campaign!

ART IN THE AGE OF NOW - FULHAM TOWN HALL

B CAMERA OPERATOR/EDITOR

The first time I was invited to The Fulham Town Hall was to document the curator MC Llamas and Pauline Amos create their pieces in performative act. The act was scored on the day, by the experimental musician Tim Holehouse. I aimed to recreate the meditative atmosphere in the room with my edit.

BURDEN - KAMAU & THE WOLF

DIRECTOR/B CAMERA OPERATOR/EDITOR

We were invited to Kamau & Wolf’s infamous recording shed to film the live recording of their song ‘Burden’. Here’s a look behind the polished music videos, stripped back to appreciate the music.

YOU EXIST IN THE BOX

ANIMATOR

You exist in the Box came from a sketch in one of my art journals. I used the illustration as a starting point to further my skills within After Effects. This project helped me get a better sense of the AE workflow with combining layers with extensive frame animation.

LOOK!

ANIMATOR

My first attempt at frame-by-frame animation. From experience, I can now confirm animation is a painstaking, yet rewarding process.

RIKESH - VIDEO PORTRAIT

DIRECTOR/EDITOR

A LOOK AT RIKESH AND HIS HOBBY. FIRE STAFFING IN THE LOCAL PARK.
